The Gardener's Notebook
Every blog has habits, whether it writes them down or not. These are ours. They shape which subjects we take on, how we research them and what we leave out, and they are the standard we hold ourselves to when a draft is nearly ready to go live.
Useful beats impressive
We would rather publish a clear, practical guide than a dazzling one that leaves you with no idea what to do next. A good article on cleaning a dishwasher should send you to the kitchen with a plan; a good piece on internet television should make clear what a subscription actually includes. If a paragraph does not help a reader decide, understand or act, it usually gets cut.
Plain words, honest limits
Jargon has its place, but we unpack it on first use. We also try to be upfront about what we do not know. When advice differs between sources, or when the right answer depends on your model, your climate or your local rules, we say that rather than inventing certainty. You will not find made-up figures, imaginary studies or invented expert quotes on these pages.
Safety before shortcuts
Home projects can go wrong in ways that matter. When a task touches wiring, gas, mains water or anything structural, we point you to a qualified professional rather than a clever workaround. We also encourage reading the manual for any appliance before following general advice, ours included, because manufacturers know their own machines best.
Respect for creators and the law
Our screen coverage is about getting the most out of legitimate services and equipment. We do not help readers reach content through unlicensed sources, and we are careful to describe privacy tools for what they are: ways to protect your connection, not permission to break a provider's terms.
Independent judgement
Some articles mention or link to businesses that fit the subject. Those mentions are not endorsements, and we try to keep the surrounding writing balanced, noting what to check before you commit. Our opinions are our own, and we change them when the evidence changes.
Mistakes get fixed
We get things wrong sometimes. Products change, services update their features and a detail that was right last year may not be right today. Whenever a reader flags a slip, we look into it, mend the article and, for bigger changes, refresh the date at the top so the revision is visible. The quickest way to flag something is through the Reach Us page.
Room for fun
Not everything has to be serious. A blog that covers celebrations, games and weekend trips should feel light on its feet, and we enjoy writing about a well-planned party as much as about picture settings. We simply want the fun pieces to be as reliable as the practical ones.
Our promise to readers
- We write for people, not for clicks.
- We keep each guide as short as it can be while still being complete.
- We tell you when to call in a professional.
- We listen when you tell us something could be better.
